**My approximate gauge was 10 stitches X 9 rows = 4 inches. I ended up with 16 rounds of hdc, after the increases. When I increased to the 48 stitches, my circle measured approximately 6 1/4" (slightly stretchy). And this hat fits ladies/teens.
If your gauge is tighter, you could either add one more increase row (to 56 sts.) but that might be too loose, or you could try working with a larger hook (K).**

  2. This is a cute hat. I wanted to know what size person is this for? I don't see where it says that. Thank you for sharing your patterns!

  4. I am working this pattern and it appears to be a kid size hat. Has anyone else made it? I love it though.

    1. I just finished this pattern. It fit me perfectly and I am a pumpkin head (adult large).

  5. I just finished this pattern. I like the end result very much, but where I joined my lines they came to a point. I like it because it adds a little something something, but I'm not sure what I did to cause therefore unsure how to prevent it. Any suggestions?

    1. I think maybe you added an extra stitch at each join?? When I get to the end of a round, it almost looks like you're skipping a stitch, but if you count, you will know if you added one too many. Hope this helped.

  6. Well, when joining at the top of the ch 2, it shouldn't create a point. You'll end up with a diagonal line along the hat where the joining row is, but it shouldn't be pointed. I'm not sure how you did that!

  8. Hi - hdc is crochet speak for half double crochet. (Yarn over the hook, insert the hook in the next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all three loops.)

  10. Can I make this with worsted weight yarn?

  11. Hi! Thank you so much for this pattern! Not only is it FREE, but the directions are clear and correct! I have tried a few hat patterns that were written incorrectly. So, thank you again!
I had some of the same yarn on hand (except ivory color) from a shawl I had frogged. I have now made two hats from this pattern and still have yarn to make more.
I am donating them to the breast cancer unit at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville where my mother is currently undergoing treatment. This yarn is super soft for someone who has sensitive skin. Also, the pattern is excellent for this purpose because the stitch used helps to hide bare scalp where some hat patterns have gaps that are too big.
Your pattern and the yarn you used are the perfect combination for chemo patients!

  12. I added one row of increase, so I have 56 stitches. My joining seam is going down at an angle, shouldn't it be in a straight line since I am not adding stitches?

    1. that's just the nature of crochet. if you go in the round each stitch is slightly behind the one below it. You don't have this problem working back and forth because the even number rows will be slightly behind the odd rows, but the shift is reversed when you flip it. Hope that made sense. The more you crochet and experiment and see what is happening with the stitches, the easier it gets. Good luck! :)

  13. Yes, crocheting in the round does tend to have a spiral seam to it. As long as your stitch count and gauge are correct, it should be just fine. I did come up with a ridged pattern that's worked in the round, but does not have a spiral twist to the seam.
Will post it to the blog soon.

  14. I made one using worsted weight yarn and had to increase to 60 sets to obtain the correct diameter. I also used a brooch of my grandmothers instead of a button. As far as the "point". I think you are doing a hdc in the slip stitch creating the point. Thanks for the pattern!!

  15. I love this hat and want to make it. However, they have discontinued this yarn. Can you suggest an alternative? It doesn't have to be organic or cotton... Thanks so much

  17. Hi there. Thanks for the pattern :) I have just made this hat for a friend and love it! I am a beginner at crochet, and found it really easy once I got the hang of the pattern. I am going to make it again.
